Dwo Mask

The organic Dwo Mask is made by the Bwa peoples. This mask is made of all organic materials such as grass, leaves, vines, and/or feathers. Deliberately and radically non-human in shape, color, and behavior, these sacred organic maskers celebrate life and help renew the forces of nature. 6 This mask is worn is worn during funeral ceremonies and planting and harvesting rituals. After the mask is used in a performance it is burned afterwards. 3 The use of plant material in the costume and the burning of the mask evokes the function of regeneration or rebirth.
